It's noisy, busy, polluted and a tad seedy,
but Lord it's fun, and if you've never visited the Far East
before, Bangkok is a great place to start. There are hotels
to suit all budgets, from the backpackers' dives to the 5-star
ultra modern, ultra swanky affairs that have sprung up around
the city. Being driven around in the back of the 3 wheeled
motorised tuk-tuk is an invigorating, adrenalin pumping must-do
experience and a boat ride along the river will reveal the
juxtaposition that makes Bangkok such an stimulating place
to visit: the thriving, modern city set against the old, traditional
and sometimes impoverished background. If you're after adventure,
this is the place to come.
The Maldives
Paradise found. Set in the Indian Ocean,
the Maldives consists of 1190 islands, tiny tropical gems
where soft white sand, transparent waters and year-round sunshine
combine to make this a dream destination. Diving, snorkelling
and sunbathing are the main daytime activities and the no
news, no shoes, relaxed atmosphere of many of the islands
means that nightlife is little more than a glass of wine and
a good meal. If you're the kind of person who forgets to relax,
then go to the Maldives and have it forced on you, two weeks
here and you'll wonder why you ever felt stressed.
